ACC & Tin’s “Drop That Contained The Sea” considered for grammy nominations

Christopher Tin’s The Drop That Contained the Sea, which Angel City Chorale performed on, is officially on the first-round ballot for The 57th Annual Grammy Awards!  Tin received 5 nominations for the work, including a nod for “Water Prelude” in the Best Choral Performance category, which features ACC.  Drop’s Grammy nominations are:

Best Classical Compendium:
Tin: The Drop That Contained the Sea

Best Choral Performance:
Tin: “Water Prelude” featuring Angel City Chorale
Tin: “Haf Gengr Hridum (The Storm Driven Sea)” featuring Schola Cantorum

Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals:
Tin: “Waloyo Yamoni (We Overcome the Wind)”

Best Engineered Album, Classical:
Tin: The Drop That Contained the Sea

ACC sang on 7 of the 10 songs on The Drop That Contained the Sea and over 100 ACC singers performed at the Carnegie Hall World Premiere of the work, in April of this year, before bringing the work home for the Los Angeles Premiere. ACC also performed the West Coast Premiere of Tin’s Grammy-winning Calling All Dawns in 2013.

First-round voting is now open and wraps up on Saturday, November 15, 2014. The final nominees will be announced during the Grammy Nominations Concert LIVE!! Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night on CBS on Saturday, December 6, 2014. After that, Recording Academy Voters will be sent the final ballot. The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Staples Center in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast on CBS.
