Angel City Chorale’s Spring 2015 concert lived up to its “epic” theme, wowing audiences two nights in a row with an exciting and surprisingly sophisticated mix of songs from video games, movies, and television.
Crowd favorites included “Circle of Life” from The Lion King and “Dragonborn” from the game Skyrim. Soloists Kat Green and Gina Suh took the traditional Russian song “Korobeiniki,” aka the Tetris Opera, to stratospheric heights on Saturday and Sunday respectively, while the men got in a good laugh, dressed up as cowpokes for the theme from Blazing Saddles.
Composers Russell Brower and Jason Hayes attended each night in turn to hear their song “Invincible” from the game World of Warcraft, rewarding the choir with big thumbs up. Well-known video game composer Christopher Tin was also spotted enjoying the show on Sunday night.
It was a spectacular celebration of music and art that left audience and choir alike glowing with joy – in other words, EPIC!
