On December 2 & 3 Angel City Chorale will present its 24th annual holiday concert and sing-along, “A New Home for the Holidays.” The program could not be more aptly named as the 2017 holiday concerts will be ACC’s debut performances in their new home at Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
Immanuel Presbyterian has proudly stood at its home on Wilshire Blvd since its dedication on May 5, 1929, and has been an icon of Los Angeles’ Miracle Mile ever since. Designed by architects Chauncey Fitch Skilling and HM Petterson, the building was called, “a splendid example of the soaring French Gothic Revival style” by architectural critic Sam Hall Kaplan. Immanuel’s website boasts the building’s many features, including stenciled hammer-beamed ceilings supported by cluster columns, a carved wood pulpit, chandeliers, oak furnishings, and a 205-foot tall bell tower. “The gothic-inspired cathedral is filled with graceful arches, stunning stained-glass windows, and intricately carved woodwork.” In 2003, the church received the distinction of Historical Landmark #78 for the City of Los Angeles.
If the iconic building looks familiar, it may be because Immanuel Presbyterian has been featured several times on screen, appearing in the films Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, the second installment of Legally Blonde, and The Amazing Spider-Man.
With 1400 theater-style, individual fold-up seats, Immanuel has nearly twice the seating capacity of ACC’s previous home. As for parking, 400 spaces are located directly across from Immanuel Presbyterian on Wilshire Blvd in the UTLA parking structure at a cost of $5. There are also two small lots directly behind the church for attendees who require accessible parking. For concert-goers who enjoy taking advantage of public transit, the Vermont/Wilshire Metro stop is less than two blocks away.
ACC is thrilled to take advantage of this gorgeous venue and its staggering acoustics. Over the years, countless talented musicians have performed within the walls of Immanuel, including Amos Lee, Andrew Bird, James Blake, Ray LaMontagne and more recently, Jenny Lewis, Hozier, and Iron & Wine. ACC is very proud to join their ranks.
Immanuel Presbyterian is located at 3300 Wilshire Blvd. Come and enjoy Angel City Chorale’s 2017 holiday concerts in this beautiful and historic landmark.
