ACC Performs at Carnegie Hall This Weekend

Angel City Chorale (ACC) will perform onstage at the World Premiere of 2-time Grammy-winning Composer Christopher Tin’s new work, The Drop that Contained the Sea, at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Sunday, April 13, 2014.

The first act of the sold out event, called The Music of Christopher Tin The Drop of Dawn, will feature Tin’s Grammy-winning Calling All Dawns, which was hailed by critics as a masterpiece. ACC performed the West Coast premiere of Calling All Dawns at its 20th Anniversary Concerts last year in Los Angeles. The second act features Tin’s much-anticipated new song cycle, The Drop that Contained the Sea.

Tin’s new classical/world music fusion work features beautiful solos with stunning juxtapositions of complex rhythms and diverse musical cultures. Songs depict global visions of water from the snows of Mongolia to the rains of Africa. The song cycle is sung in 10 different languages, including Proto-Indo-European, Turkish, and Xhosa.

ACC is one of 17 choirs performing at the Carnegie Hall event, which is being produced by Distinguished Choirs International New York (DCINY). Jonathan Griffith, DCINY’s Artistic Director, will conduct the evening. Tin invited ACC to participate in the World Premiere event last year, in 2013.

ACC also recently recorded on Tin’s new album of The Drop that Contained the Sea, which is scheduled for a May 2014 release. In addition to ACC, performing on the new album are the Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir, a capella quartet Anonymous 4, the Grammy-winning Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares, and Portuguese folk artist Dulce Pontes.
