Tour of Hope Afterglow Dinner

TOUR OF HOPE

The Angel City Chorale holiday Tour of Hope was founded in 1997 by David Steinberg, a former choir member. His vision was for ACC to bring a sense of joy and hope during the holiday season through our music. Since then we have boarded buses the Saturday after our concert weekend and visited over thirty organizations in Los Angeles including soup kitchens, havens for the homeless, nursing homes, veterans’ hospitals, Juvenile Hall, and sober living and domestic violence support facilities.

We perform at each site for 45 minutes to an hour. At most locations, we make an extra effort to go out to our audience and shake hands, give hugs and wipe tears (both theirs and ours). Sometimes the people to whom we sing are not at first responsive, but by the time our concert is over, most everyone is swaying to the music and tapping their feet.

Our day begins before 8:00 A.M. with breakfast at St. Andrews and then off we go on two buses, accompanied by our elf van carrying Santa (our own George Harris), and a roadie van that carries our instruments, and our talented accompanist Mark McCormick. Traditionally we begin our Tour of Hope downtown at Catholic Worker, an outdoor kitchen and garden which serves hot breakfast to the homeless of skid row. After our mini concert there, we will be returning to the Westside to the California Veterans Home on the grounds of the West Los Angeles VA where we will sing and then eat lunch which we each bring on their outdoor patio. Our mid-afternoon and third stop is to Nazareth House, a retirement home for priests and nuns. The buses will return us to St. Andrews around 4:00 PM for our final concert of the day in their chapel. At the end of the tour day we gather for our Afterglow dinner at El Torito on Ocean Park. Our Tour of Hope concerts are always very moving and meaningful for all who participate.

The Afterglow dinner costs $25.00 per person. You can pay on line or bring payment to our final rehearsals to either Joyce Linder or Joanne Mathos. There will be sign-up sheets for Tour of Hope and the Afterglow Dinner at our last two rehearsals so please indicate that you will attend.
