The Angel City Chorale is proud to announce the inaugural Beverly Padway Memorial Scholarship Vocal Competition. Through this program, we aim to encourage aspiring high school seniors and first and second-year college students in Los Angeles communities to pursue their musical dreams. Winners receive a financial award and have the opportunity to perform on stage with the Angel City Chorale to further nurture their talents and showcase the unifying power of music.
Beverly Padway was an exceptional individual and a beloved member of our chorale. Her dedication to singing with the Angel City Chorale for 25 years and the Santa Monica Sweet Adelines for 26 years speaks volumes about her commitment to music. Beverly's passion for all genres of music was infectious, and her love for performing was matched by her genuine interest in hearing the life stories of others. She also made a profound impact as an educator at Eastman Elementary School in East Los Angeles for 25 years. Through her teaching, she not only imparted knowledge but also shared her joy for learning and her sense of humor with her students. The lasting impression she left on their lives is a testament to her exceptional qualities as a teacher and mentor.
We are honored to recognize Beverly Padway's immeasurable contributions to our chorale and her students through the establishment of the Beverly Padway Memorial Scholarship Vocal Competition. This scholarship program not only celebrates her legacy but also serves as a means to foster the growth and development of young musicians in our communities. Beverly Padway Memorial Scholarship - hidden
The Angel City Chorale is proud and excited to offer the Angel City Chorale/Beverly Padway Memorial Scholarship Vocal Competition for high school seniors and first and second year college students. Two winners will be chosen for each Angel City Chorale concert. We perform at Royce Hall in December and June of each year. To apply, students should send a short video of themselves singing, along with a short essay as described in the application form below. We request that applications be received by April 27, 2023. We look forward to hearing from you!
The winners will be awarded the following: (Winners must be able to attend our concert on June 11th, and be able to rehearse with us during several Thursday night rehearsals in West LA prior to the concert)
1. A $500 award to help with the cost of higher education.
2. The opportunity to rehearse and perform a song on the stage (within the chorale group) with the Angel City Chorale at the upcoming June 11th concert.
3. Three complimentary tickets to our upcoming Angel City Chorale concert on June 11th at UCLA Royce Hall.

Maya Thalia Bishop will be heading to their first year at the Institute for American Musical Theatre this fall! They recently graduated from LACHSA, where they studied dance and musical theatre. They are honored and very excited to perform with Angel City Chorale!
Sophia Joy is currently a student at the Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts in Santa Maria, CA. She was born and raised in Los Angeles and has been a musical theatre performer for nine years. As for her singing career, this will be her first professional performance, and she is absolutely honored to have been a recipient of Angel City Chorale’s Beverly Padway Memorial Scholarship.
